Acupuncture is based on the idea that your body has energy or Qi (pronounced "chee") flowing through channels or meridian lines throughout the body.  By the insertion of a fine solid sterile needle, an acupuncturist can move energy when it is not moving and direct that energy to those areas of the body that are lacking in energy, thus helping the body to regain the balance it has lost.  Acupuncture stimulates the body's own healing process to bring about change and balance which ultimately restores one to health. 

Some of the benefits of acupuncture are an overall sense of well--being, improved sleep, increased energy, stabilized mood swings, reduction or elimination of pain, reduced joint stiffness and many more health benefits depending on the specific illness.

Acupuncture needles are fine, flexible "filaments" (the size of a piece of hair) and rarely draw blood when inserted.  Patients describe the sensation as a muscle twitch or a tingling feeling followed by a feeling of warmth.  After the initial anxiety is overcome, patients usually feel relaxed and have been known to fall into a light sleep-like state.

Acupuncture is widely used for helping patients recover from an ACL injury. Dr. Li has treated hundreds of patients with sports injuries. If your ACL is completely torn, surgery may be needed.* Acupuncture may help manage your postoperative pain and rehabilitation. If your ACL is not completely torn, you may stay in a conservative treatment. Acupuncture helps to reduce inflammation and swelling, as well as increase blood circulation and nerve signal
transduction, working to restore normal body functioning.

* The MRI result is a key factor for determining a treatment strategy and is recommended prior to beginning treatment.

Dr. Li has experience with treating many children who suffer with negative symptoms associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention-Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) - both hyperactive and inattentive types. As you know, Acupuncture is a "no harm" remedy for different kinds of illnesses. Scalp Acupuncture can help balance the blood supply, regulate the immune system, and neurotransmitter secretions. No restraints are necessary for children, as they simply relax sitting in a chair or lying on a massage bed throughout the 20-30 minute treatment. Parents typically stay with the child throught the entire session. The treatment is a very calming and relaxing experience for both children and adults.

Patients have often reported an immediate improvement of symptoms after the intial treatment . However, depending on each individual case, it is recommended that a visit of at least once a week over a three to four week period is made in order to maintain and regulate satisfactory results. The goal is to taper visits gradually with minimal follow-ups or on an as-needed basis.

The cost of the teatment range from $50-$130.

1. Depending on the patient's individual coverage, health insurance may be covered if the treatment is due to pain related conditions. We are In-Network with UnitedHealth Care*. Medicare/Medicaid currently do not cover acupuncture services. We also accept workers compensation, auto accident and personal injury claims.

2. Workers Compensation and Personal Injury coverage may pay for acupuncture when an injury occurs at work or is a result of an auto accident.
3. Acupuncture may be eligible for coverage if you participate in Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs).
